Critique Etiquette

1. Always give feedback in a positive light, even if it's about a negative issue with the manuscript.

2. Remember the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”


• Speak to others with a sensitive heart.
  
• Remember their work is their baby and treat them respectfully as you would want them to treat you.
  
  
3. Profanity of any kind is unacceptable in a Christian writers group and most children's book writing groups. However, some profanity may be allowed in the YA genre. Proceed with caution.


• If someone gives you feedback you do not agree with, please hold your temper and accept it graciously. 
• You don't have to take everything someone says to heart, nor feel you must use anything they suggest. *We are the salt of earth – so take it all with a grain of salt.
4. Speak the truth, but say it in love. Until you know someone well, do not presume they will understand what you mean about something.

5. Do not be rude. 

• Do not come to a meeting with copies of your work and shove it in the face of an unsuspecting person whom you think may give you a great critique on the spot. 
• This is not the appropriate manner in which to approach critiquing, and it is considered to be very rude. 
• 
  
• 6.   Be thankful for the feedback and accept it with gracious appreciation.
